Lynden girls lose on last-second shot

Published: December 29, 2012

The Lynden girls' basketball team never trailed until Meadowdale hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Lions 55-54 on Friday, Dec. 28, in the Surf 'n Slam Tournament in San Diego.

Lynden coach Rob Adams said with only eight players and facing full-court pressure during the first half, his team tired a little in the second half.

"It was disappointing because I thought we played really good basketball," Adams said in a phone interview, "and I can't ask anything more from my girls."

Kelsey Bouwman had 20 points for Lynden, Stephanie Somers had 13 points and Tanna Benson had 7.

"I was really excited with the play of Kelsey Bouwman," Adams said, "and the play off the bench of Tanna Benson and Mandy Warner (4 points)."

The Lions play a team from either Kentucky or Texas in the third-place game at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29.
