Pioneers overcome early deficit to get 43-32 win

Published: December 29, 2012

The Nooksack Valley girls' basketball team overcame a first quarter deficit to win 43-32 against Mariner of Everett in the Lakewood Tournament on Friday, Dec. 28.

"We started out in a hole," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said. "They were shooting well. We switched defenses and had a rhythm and moved the ball around and started to score. That second and third quarter we started to execute and pulled ahead."

Nooksack (7-2) outscored Mariner 32-13 in the middle two quarters and was led in scoring by Melissa Stadt with 18 points and Julie Campos with seven.

"Julie had her best game of the year today," Wichers said. "She did a good job breaking the press and attacking the basket."

The Pioneers will play Mount Baker on Friday, Jan. 4, in a Northwest Conference game.
