Bree Park went 7 of 11 from 3-point range and the Whatcom Community College women's basketball team earned a 78-69 overtime victory Friday, Dec. 28, over Yakima Valley in the first day of the 2012 Lady Devil Holiday Tournament in Longview.
"Bree was just lights out," WCC coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "She definitely showed up tonight so I'm definitely proud of her."
Cambie Edwards had 14 points and 20 rebounds in the victory, Margaret Redelinghuis had 13 points and Amanda Tapia had nine points and 11 assists.
Yakima Valley (6-5) was led by Sammi Jo Blodgett, who had 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
"Both teams really battled tonight but we had the momentum in the end," Bergner said. "It was good to see the girls get a win against a quality team."
Whatcom (6-4) plays Centralia at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in day two of the tournament.
