The Lynden boys' basketball team defeated University City of San Diego 49-35 in the Surf 'n Slam tournament Thursday, Dec. 27, in San Diego.
"It was a good bounce-back game for us after losing to Tahoma," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "I liked the effort our guys gave and the sunshine."
Lynden jumped out to a 28-17 lead at halftime and was led in scoring by John Shine with 14 points.
"Shine was very efficient and effective on both ends of the floor," Roper said. "He had five steals and eight rebounds and did a lot of things to help the team today."
