The Squalicum girls' basketball team lost 43-38 to Roosevelt in the first game of the Archbishop Murphy Christmas Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 27, in Everett.
The Storm had lulls in the first and third quarters and coach Mark Wright said they gave up too many second chances to the Roughriders.
"We allowed them way too many offensive rebounds and that was kind of the key for them," Wright said in a phone interview.
Janna Poradun had eight points for Squalicum and Meghan Lowry and Jessica Greene chipped in with seven points each.
The Storm (0-9, 0-3) play Pernith (Australia) at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the second day of the tournament.
