The Ferndale girls' basketball team started the running clock at halftime of its first-day game against Foster in the Rebel Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 27, at Juanita, as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 76-19 victory.
Four Ferndale players, including two off the bench, scored in double figures, as Ferndale (9-0) dominated every aspect of the game. Koral Weidkamp and Hannah Carlson each scored 17 points, while Brooke Benson had 12 points and Taryn Knutson finished with 11. Linsey Honeycutt came within one point of making it five players in double figures, but she had a game-high 10 rebounds.
After outscoring Foster 20-4 in the first quarter, Ferndale really turned it on in the second, stretching its halftime lead to 50-6 and starting the running clock with a margin of more than 40 points.
"We played extremely well in that second quarter," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said. "We had five buckets where I don't think the ball touched the court. We passed really well. ... We played extremely hard tonight and jumped on them, and they lost a little zip."
Not only did Ferndale win the battle on the scoreboard in impressive fashion, it dominated on the boards (42-13), in assists (17-2) and in the turnover battle (16-4).
Ivy expects things will get a little tougher on Friday, Dec. 28, though, when the Golden Eagles face Ballard in the second day of the Challenge.
