The Syncopaths, an energetic contra dance band, is one of numerous bands playing in Whatcom County on New Year's Eve.

This all-ages, alcohol-free event begins at 8 p.m. at Norway Hall, 1419 N. Forest St. Marlin Prowell calls the dances. Bring finger food to share; party favors and beverages are provided.

Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students; ages 12 and younger get in for free.
