Lions suffer first loss against Class 4A power Tahoma

Published: December 23, 2012

Lynden couldn't overcome a 23-percent shooting night and suffered its first loss of the season, as Class 4A power Tahoma beat the Lions 57-43 on Saturday, Dec. 22, in Kent.

Lynden managed only six first-quarter points and five third-quarter points.

"We played two poor quarters, and unfortunately in high school basketball, that is half the game," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "I'm hoping this will be a good growth game. We shot the ball poorly and were doing a little too much around the perimeter."

Josh Kraght led the Lions with a game-high 11 points and was praised by Roper for playing a "strong floor game." Dak Shagren scored nine, and Scott Hastings added eight off the bench.

Tahoma's Coleman Wooten scored a game-high 21 points, and Roper said 6-foot-11 center Paul Loranger made things difficult for Lynden inside.

The Lions play in the Surf n' Slam Tournament next on Thursday, Dec. 27, in San Diego, Calif.
