Lummi boys' basketball earns blowout win thanks to strong defensive outing

Published: December 22, 2012

The Lummi boys' basketball team caused 33 turnovers in a defensive masterpiece and beat Highland Christian 75-19 in a Northwest 1B game Friday, Dec. 21, in Lummi.

The Blackhawks allowed only two second-quarter points and led 53-11 at halftime.

"We just got off to a great start and put together a good 32 minutes," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "Everyone contributed tonight, and I was pleased to get a league win."

Logan Toby paced the Blackhawks' balanced attack with 13 points, Joe Brady scored 12 points and Charlie Wilson added seven in the win.

"We did a good job of getting into the passing lanes and got a lot of steals," Toby said. "That led to a lot of transition buckets."

Lummi (6-0, 4-0 NW 1B) will host the Lummi Christmas Tournament starting on Thursday, Dec. 27.
