V'Dovec's huge night leads to conference win over Anacortes

Published: December 22, 2012

Taylor V'Dovec took advantage of fellow teammate Alexis McElwain's absence and scored a team-high 31 points and hauled in 15 rebounds to lead the Borderites to a 58-48 Northwest Conference win against Anacortes Friday, Dec. 21, in Anacortes.

Blaine trailed by one point heading into the fourth quarter but outscored the Seahawks 22-11 in the final 8 minutes.

"Lexi McElwain was sick and didn't make the trip, so we needed someone to step up," Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. "Taylor finally shot the ball like I've been asking her to. She was 14 for 22 and was being aggressive. Rhiana Breedlove played 30 minutes tonight, and she played outstanding."

Breanna Chau scored 10 points for Blaine, and Mandy Hayes added six. Anacortes was led in scoring by Tania Daou's 20 points.

Blaine (5-3, 1-2 NWC) will participate in the LC Christmas Tournament starting on Thursday, Dec. 27.
