BELLINGHAM - A Bellingham man has been charged with throwing a foot-long shard of sharp glass at a man at the tail end of a fight on High Street.
Peter Robert Cole, 21, and a friend, Sandeep Sidhu, crashed a house party in the 1100 block of High Street in the early morning hours of Dec. 16, according to Western Washington University Police.
A 23-year-old man told Cole and Sidhu to leave. The men got into an argument on the porch that turned into a brawl involving several other people, according to charging documents. Cole and Sidhu fled southbound on High Street afterward.
But then Cole turned around and smashed the window of a neighboring house, according to the charges. Prosecutors allege Cole chucked a chunk of glass - "a half-circle shape about one foot long at its long end" with "sharp edges and two sharp points" - at the 23-year-old man from a distance of about 10 feet. The victim jumped out of the way and wasn't hit.
Police tracked down the fleeing duo in the 400 block of High Street. Cole allegedly kept twisting his body and arms away from the officers' handcuffs. Sidhu was arrested, after a struggle, on suspicion of trespassing.
Cole was charged last week with second-degree assault, third-degree malicious mischief and resisting arrest. He's no longer in jail after posting $10,000 bond.
