The Sehome boys' basketball team defeated Squalicum 64-57 in a Northwest Conference game Thursday, Dec. 20, at Sehome High School.

"Anytime you get a league win over a quality opponent like Squalicum you have got to be happy," Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said in a phone interview. "We were able to get out to a 12-point lead at half and hold them off."

Sehome outscored Squalicum 29-17 at halftime.

The teams each scored 15 points in the third, but Squalicum (4-5, 0-3 NWC) was able to make a run and closed the gap in the fourth quarter.

"They hit five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and made it really interesting," LaBree said. "We knew they were gonna make a run and we just had to hold them off."

Alex Yuska led the Storm with 18 points and Blake Youtsey added 16 more.

"Youtsey played hard," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "We started out really slowly and Sehome came out ready to play and we didn't match their intensity."

Sehome was able to limit Squalicum's chances by forcing 19 turnovers.

"I give credit to Sehome, they had a great game plan and executed it well," Dickson said.

Evan Miksovsky scored 18 points for Sehome (6-2, 2-1 NWC).

"Evan had a really great game offensively and finished really well around the hoop," LaBree said. "I thought Willy Lallas also had a lot of energy and took a couple charges early in the game. He was flying around out there."

Noah Cyr-Moore added 16 points for the Mariners and Charlie Linneman scored 11.

Sehome won 54-48 at Squalicum on Dec. 3, their first win at Squalicum since 2001.

Squalicum hosts White Rock Christian on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m., while Sehome will next participate in the Lynden Christmas Classic on Thursday, Dec. 27.
