The Mount Baker boys' basketball team scored late and held on for a 52-51 win at Friday Harbor on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
"It was a very competitive game," Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview. "We jumped on them early and had a seven-point lead at halftime."
Friday Harbor's Otis Cooper-West scored seven straight after half to eliminate that lead.
"We felt comfortable and then they came back," Gray said. "It was a good team win with guys coming in off the bench. It's a tough place to play."
Mount Baker's (2-6, 0-1 NWC) Andrew Zender made a shot with about 1 minute 40 seconds left in the game. Friday Harbor was able to retake the lead and force a turnover, but the Mountaineers grabbed the rebound and call a timeout to set up a play.
"We had a scramble and couldn't run the play we wanted," Gray said. "Ty Munsell was able to get the ball at the top and run hard to the right and get a layup with about 7 seconds left."
Mount Baker held on for the win. Reuben Murashov led the Mountaineers with 18 points off the bench.
Baker travels to Lynden Christian on Friday, Dec. 21, for a Northwest Conference game.
