BELLINGHAM - Flashing lights and sheriff's cars will surround Wade King Elementary Wednesday, Dec. 19, as the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office conducts training at the school.
The event is part of the Sheriff's Office's regularly scheduled, ongoing training program to practice responding to school shooting. It's not in response to any reports or threats at the school, according to the Sheriff's Office. Nor is it in response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.
Uniformed members of the Special Response Team will be training at the school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and signs will be posted to alert people to the event. No students will be on campus during the training.
