Messenger, Caldwell lift Sehome over Anacortes in overtime win

Hallie Messenger made a clutch shot and Mackenzie Caldwell came up big in overtime as the Sehome girls' basketball team defeated visiting Anacortes 45-37 in Northwest Conference action on Monday, Dec. 17.

Messenger sank a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the game at 32-32 for Sehome (5-3, 2-0 NWC). The 3-pointer gave the Mariners momentum in overtime as they outscored the Seahawks 13-5. Caldwell came off the bench and scored five of her seven points in the extra period.

"She really kind of sparked us," Sehome coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview.

Rachel Albert led the Mariners in all major categories with 20 points, 16 rebounds and four assists. Messenger finished with 10 points for Sehome.

Anacortes dropped to 0-6, 0-1 NWC.

Sehome travels to play Squalicum on Thursday, Dec. 20.
