Led by first-place finishers by Natalie Smith (118 pounds), Megan Young (137), Lacy Cannon (145), Aysha Schwinden (190) and Kemi Schwinden (235), the Mount Baker girls' wrestling team won the John Rogers Holiday Tournament Saturday, Dec. 15, at Rogers High School in Puyallup.
The Mountaineers scored 176 points, Rogers scored 136, Burlington-Edison had 113, Stadium scored 83 points and Puyallup rounded out the top five with 75 points.
Nicole Boardman (112) and Jessica Mata (124) earned second-place finishes.
"We performed pretty well," Mount Baker coach Clyde Blockley said in a phone interview. "We aren't there yet, but we are getting there. Natalie Smith is a freshman. She came out ready and battled really hard. She beat a couple girls who were at regionals last year."
