Mount Baker takes first at Cashmere Invitational behind three first-place finishes

The Mount Baker wrestling team had three individual weight champions and took first place as a team at the Cashmere Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Hunter Schenk, Sterling Honeycutt and Jake Larsen each won individual titles. Schenk pinned all three of his opponents to win the 126-pound weight class. Honeycutt took first place at 220 pounds and Larsen was first at 285 pounds.

Overall, the Mountaineers had 10 wrestlers place and finished with a tourney-high 181 points. Quincy finished second with 142 points.

"It was a good day, pretty exciting for the three guys who won," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview.

Finishing second for Mount Baker was Joey Walton at 138 pounds, Zach Larson (145), Tyrel Cronk (195) and Matt Scoles (220). Travis Lindsey (160) and Alex Ray (170) each had third-place finishes and Alex Tyska placed sixth at 152.

Team scores: Mount Baker 181, Quincy 142, Cashmere 140, Medical Lake 138, Lake Roosevelt 121.5, Kittitas 112.5, Omak 111, Cascade Leavenworth 74, Cle Elum 51.
