Bellingham schools take second in gymnastics

The Bellingham district gymnastics team placed second in a meet at Bainbridge High School on Friday, Dec. 14.

Bainbridge took first with a score of 151.5, Bellingham scored 136.15 and Mercer Island finished third with a score of 110.25.

"This is our first meet of the season, and it went great," Doriane Gunnels said in a phone interview. "I have a great group of kids and talent from all the schools and they really are good kids. They are shaping up well and their routines are awesome."

Zoe Brunnell from Sehome finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 30.35, while Catalina Fitzpatrick from Sehome finished fifth with 26.75.

Brunnell also finished third in the vault with an 8.1, the bars with 6.5 and beams with a 7.55. Brunnell took fifth on the floor with an 8.2.

Fitzpatrick took fifth in the vault with an 8.0, and sixth in the bars with a 5.5.

Sage Stevenson from Bellingham finished sixth in bars with a 5.5, and Ariel McGovock took fifth in the beams with a 7.45.

Madi Crussow of Squalicum took fourth in the floor with an 8.4.

"It should be an exciting season and I am really looking forward to it," Gunnels said.
