Eckert scores 17, but the Storm girls' basketball team loses to Burlington-Edison

Lauren Eckert scored a team-high 17 points, but the Squalicum girls' basketball team lost to Burlington-Edison 55-34 in a Northwest Conference game Friday, Dec. 14, at Burlington-Edison.

"I was really stoked about (our) effort in the first half," Storm coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "Eckert had a really good game. She played smart."

The Storm trailed only 19-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers, led by Ellary Torset's team-high 15 points, took a 36- 21 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half.

Janna Poradun scored five points and grabbed four rebounds, and Sydney Arndorfer added three points.

Squalicum (0-6, 0-1) plays at Lynden on Monday, Dec. 17, in a Northwest Conference game.
