The Lynden boys' basketball team defeated Anacortes 61-51 in a non-conference game, Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Lynden.
"We jumped out to an early lead and I thought our guys were terrific in the first quarter," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "It was a game of runs and Anacortes shot the ball really well. They are a very good shooting team and it's been a long time since another team has hit nine 3-pointers in our gym."
Anacortes cut the lead to one with 5 minutes left, but Lynden was able to get key offensive rebounds that helped extend its lead.
"I thought Dak Shagren was really good with 25 points on 14 shots and seven steals," Roper said. "He was really active defensively and I thought he played a really complete game."
John Shine added 10 points and seven assists for the Lions (3-0)
The Lions will host Bellingham to open conference play on Friday, Dec. 14.
