The Lynden boys' basketball team defeated Mount Baker 64-32 in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Lynden.

"We jumped out early and had a good first quarter," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "Baker kind of clawed back in the second. I thought Jaremy Martin gave us a spark early in the third to give us a good lead."

Lynden (2-0) outscored Mount Baker 17-4 in the first quarter and took a 29-16 halftime lead. The Lions then scored 21 points in the third and held the Mountaineers to seven.

"Mount Baker played really hard, we just had too much size for them," Roper said. "I thought Martin stood out and John Shine had a good all-around game and was very effective."

Shine led the Lions with 15 points and Martin added 12 more.

Mount Baker (1-4) was led by Dalton Munsell, who scored nine points, and Isaac Gilmore, who scored six.

Lynden hosts Anacortes on Wednesday, Dec. 12, while Mount Baker travels to Ferndale on Friday, Dec. 14, to begin conference play.
