Sehome wins six events at Northwest Conference Invite, wins meet

The Sehome boys' swim team won the Northwest Conference Invite with 311 points Saturday, Dec. 8, at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes.

Anacortes took second with 267 points, Lynden finished third with 188 points, Bellingham was fourth with 171, Squalicum took fifth with 164, Burlington-Edison came in sixth with 99, Ferndale had 31 points and placed seventh and Sedro-Woolley took eighth with 21 points.

The Mariners got wins from its 400 freestyle relay team of Will Hutchinson, Trevor Nims, Colin Hakeman and Josh Larson, its 200 freestyle team of Patrick Gregory, Andy Small, Curran Wilbour and Isaiah Grambo, Gregory in the 100 breaststroke, Hakeman in the 500 freestyle and Small in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

Small's 2 minute, 8.51 second IM time was a state qualifying mark. He also qualified for state with his 59.32 in the backstroke.

"Our swimmer of the meet was Colin Hakeman," Sehome coach Don Helling said in a phone interview. "He had tremendous swims in both his events. He did well in the IM and won the 500 free."

Squalicum's Rylan Korby won the diving event with 312.95 points, and Bellingham's Martin Sloley won the 200 freestyle with a swim of 1:57.19.
