Isaac Reimer scored a team-high 29 points and hauled in 13 rebounds, but the Lynden Christian boys' basketball team fell 64-63 to Brethren Christian in the consolation final of the Christian Cup basketball tournament Saturday, Dec. 8, in Gilbert, Ariz.
Reimer's effort was even more impressive given he was match against Brethren's 7-foot-5, 315-pound Mamadou Ndiaye.
"You got to look at it as a once in a lifetime deal," said LC coach Roger DeBoer of facing a player of Ndiaye's size in a phone interview. "I've coached for 25 years and been a head coach for 23, and I've never went against anyone over 7-feet tall."
The Lyncs rallied from 14 down with seven minutes to go. DeBoer said LC had its chance to tie but couldn't convert a bucket.
Truman Van Dalen scored 14 points, and Daulton Hommes added nine. Reimer was an all-tournament selection, making a team filled with NCAA Division I talent.
Lynden Christian hosts Burlington-Edison next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
