Nooksack Valley boys' wrestling wins Iron Sharpens Iron Tournament

The Nooksack Valley boys' wrestling team scored 217 points and took first place at the Iron Sharpens Iron Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Bellevue Christian High School.

Mount Rainier placed second with 207 points, Darrington took third with 146.5 points and host Bellevue Christian placed fourth with 141 points. Eight teams competed in the tournament.

Nooksack Valley's Paul Newell earned a first-palce finish at 120 pounds, Hunter Whittern won the 132-pound division, Tyler Warner won the 152-pound class and Nick Bourassa won his 285-pound weight class.

"Nick Bourassa, the way he's been wrestling, he's been coming on really strong," Nooksack Valley assistant coach Edward Reyes said in a phone interview. "He is getting so much better, and he has really matured this year. I think he will be someone to look out for at the state tournament."

Next for the Pioneers is the Graham Morin Invite at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Squalicum High School.
