James scores a team-high 18 points, but Lummi girls lose

Published: December 9, 2012

Dawn James scored a team-high 18 points - 17 in the second half - but the Lummi girls' basketball team fell 62-23 to Mount Vernon Christian in a non-conference game Saturday, Dec. 8, in Lummi.

The Blackhawks trailed 15-3 at the end of the first quarter and could never catch up.

"We came out a little flat," Lummi coach Woody Bakke said in a phone interview. "We didn't execute very well. When we did execute, we did improve on getting the ball into the post and got better shots."

Samantha Wilson and Theresa Solomon each scored two points in the loss. Lummi committed 18 turnovers to Mount Vernon Christian's eight. Bakke said it was Mount Vernon Christian's 11th or 12th game, while the Blackhawks were playing one night after their season opener.

Lummi travels to play Lopez next at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
