Fast start leads Bellingham girls' basketball to decisive win against Marysville-Getchell

Published: December 9, 2012

Alyssa Porter scored 13 first-half points, as the Bellingham girls' basketball team took control early and earned a 57-31 win against Marysville-Getchell in a non-conference game Saturday, Dec. 8, at Bellingham High School.

Bellingham outscored Marysville-Getchell 18-6 in the first quarter and took a 36-17 lead into halftime.

"I felt like our defensive intensity was pretty good at the beginning, only giving up six points in the first quarter," Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "Olivia was really good for us. She didn't make a field goal until the second half, but she was 6 for 8 from the line in the first half and kind of got us going."

Halverson finished with 10 points and hauled in a team-high six rebounds. Alicia Romero and Joelle Zamora each scored seven points in the win.

Bellingham travels to play city-rival Squalicum next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
