Locker's 22 points not enough as Orcas fall

Published: December 9, 2012

The Whatcom Community College women's basketball team was unable to make a defensive stop in the final minutes, as the Orcas fell 65-61 to Highline Community College in a non-league game Saturday, Dec. 8, at WCC.

Erika Locker scored a game-high 22 points and was 11 for 12 from the free-throw line, Margaret Redelinghuis scored 14 and Bree Park added 12 points and a team-high three assists.

"Shots we usually make, weren't falling in for us tonight," Whatcom coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "We needed to get stops on the defensive end and weren't able to."

WCC trailed 34-29 at the half but built a five-point second-half lead before Highline grabbed a four-point lead late.

WCC hosts Quest at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
