PREVIEW: Burlington-Edison Tigers

Published: December 9, 2012

BURLINGTON-EDISON

TIGERS

Coach: Jake Martyn (second season)

Last year: Tied for eighth in the Northwest Conference with a 6-7 conference mark. Eliminated in the 2A Northwest District Tournament and finished with a 13-8 record overall.

Players to watch: Daron Browning (sr. F), Isaak Davies (jr. G), Austin Von Herbulis (sr. P), Jeremy Canniff (sr. P), Dalton Schwetz (sr. G), Brandon Stransky (sr. G)

Outlook: The Tigers saw their streak of five straight seasons qualifying for the state tournament end in the play-in game to the 2A Northwest District Tournament last season, but they feel they have all the pieces to start a new streak this year. "We are definitely in a different spot this season, as opposed to last season," Martyn told the Skagit Valley Herald. "This year, we have six guys with varsity experience, so that is going to be nice." Among them is Browning, who was second on the team with 10.6 points per game last season. Canniff and Davies each averaged 7.0, while Von Herbulis chipped in 5.7. He will play a big role for the Tigers - at 6-foot-7, he'll be the tallest player on the court most nights in NWC play. "We are definitely big," Martyn said. "We can put a lineup out there that goes 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4, 6-foot-7. We will certainly rely on our guard play as well. Davies is going to play an important part. ... And I expect Browning, Schwetz and Stransky to step up big as well." No wonder so many 2A coaches are looking to the Tigers as one of the early-season favorites.
