ANACORTES
SEAHAWKS
Coach: Brett Senff (sixth season)
Last year: Finished second in the Northwest Conference with an 11-2 conference mark. Placed fourth in the 2A Northwest District Tournament to advance to state. Won in the regional round but did not place at state and finished with an 18-9 record overall.
Players to watch: Matt Aldridge (sr. G), Billy King (sr. P), A.J. Yost (sr. P/W), Sam D'Amelio (sr. W), Ty Johnson (so. G)
Outlook: The Seahawks return plenty from last season's state qualifier, including four starters. King (14.1 points per game) and Yost (10.1) were the second- and third-leading scorers on the team last year, respectively. "We have quite a few players who got a lot of experience last year," Senff told the Skagit Valley Herald. "Plus we have depth. That's a good combination." With three players measuring in at 6-foot-4 or taller, Anacortes also has some height - a trait many teams in the Northwest Conference are lacking this year. "We have height across the board," Senff said. "But the keys this season will be our defensive intensity. We are going to have to keep that up every night. We are going to push the ball, but we will feed off our defense. Then we need to play with consistency." While the Seahawks will rely heavily on their returners, a host of newcomers, including senior guard Alex Luevanos, junior post Andrew Medalia and junior post Zach Vance could play big roles in helping the Seahawks contend for the conference crown and get back to state.
