Last year: Won the Northwest 1B League title with a 9-3 league mark. Finished second in the 1B Tri-District Tournament to advance to state, but lost in the regional round to finish with a 14-8 record overall.

Outlook: If falling one game short of making to Spokane last year didn't make the Blackhawks hungry enough, the football team's semifinal loss to Neah Bay did the trick. "These kids are motivated," Toby said in a phone interview. "They hated that taste of being so close to the state championship. It made them even more determined." The Blackhawks certainly have the talent to put themselves in position to get back to state this year, as they did not lose any players to graduation. Deardorff was the team's leading scorer last year with 10.3 points per game, but Johnson (9.4), Tom (8.2), Brady (7.5) and Toby (5.9) were all key contributors offensively. "With the core guys back and a couple of new faces, I hope we're going to surprise a few teams," Toby said. "I think the biggest thing for us this year is our depth. We have a lot of guys returning. I think we have good team chemistry. We have a lot more balance, as far as not focusing so much on our perimeter game." Look for the Blackhawks to cruise to a league title and then contend to go deep at state.
