MOUNT BAKER
MOUNTAINEERS
Coach: Rob Gray (16th season)
Last year: Tied for 12th in the Northwest Conference with a 2-11 conference mark. Did not advance to the postseason at 4-16 overall.
Players to watch: Zan Roman (sr. F), Dalton Munsell (sr. F), Ty Munsell (jr. G), Reuben Murashov (jr. F), Conner Brandland (jr. F), Jacob Oiness (jr. F), Andrew Zender (jr. F), Isaac Gilmore (jr. G), John Douglas (sr. G)
Outlook: Mount Baker graduated its top two scorers from last year, but Gray said he isn't too worried about the team coming together to find replacements. "The biggest thing about this team is its unity," Gray said. "They really do seem to have a great bond together. Because they have that bond, they're willing to sacrifice for each other - they'll dive on the floor or take a charge and do everything they can not to let the team down." As you might expect, the Mountaineers figure to be a scrappy team this season, as nobody stands taller than 6-4. "We actually have more size than last year," Gray said. "I think we're going to be bigger than we look. We have some 6-3, 6-4 wide bodies." Murashov is the top returning scorer after he averaged 7.7 points per game last year. Gray said the Munsell brothers also have the capability to step up and have big games offensively. Roman will add an outside shot when he returns from a shoulder injury suffered during the football state playoffs. With its togetherness, Mount Baker could be a threat in February.
