Asks Bellingham drivers to watch for pedestrians

Published: December 9, 2012

I love Bellingham! Now that I've made that perfectly clear, I must take issue with how car-centric this area is. Know what the most dangerous outdoor sport is here? Being a pedestrian! A day doesn't go by that I'm not almost roadkill. Bellinghamsters pride themselves on being socially aware types. Let's put that into action behind the wheel, not just on placards or in platitudes. Anyone fortunate enough to have a vehicle, license, etc. (my disability prevents this) should be conscientious of the fact that the pedestrian whose life you end or ruin could be your child, parent, spouse, friend, pet, etc. So please slow down, look both ways, don't sail through stop signs, etc. (This is when the pedestrian can and should walk.) In this instance they are the "entitled" ones.
