Published: December 8, 2012

The Bellingham girls' basketball team came back to defeat Nooksack Valley 46-45 in the last seconds of a non-conference game Friday, Dec. 7, at Nooksack Valley High School.

"We were up by about eight with three minutes to go and Bellingham had a nice comeback," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. "They took the lead with about 23 seconds left. We came down and couldn't get a shot off."

The Red Raiders (3-2) were led by Ashley Spink, who scored 20 points and Olivia Halverson, who scored 11.

Nooksack Valley (3-1) was led by Melissa Stadt, who had eight points, 14 rebounds and two assists.

"They had a great comeback, but we missed some shots that would have really helped us," Wichers said. "It was a good, hard-fought game."

Bellingham hosts Marysville-Getchell on Saturday, Dec. 8, while Nooksack Valley will travel to Sedro-Woolley on Monday, Dec. 10, for a non-conference game.
