Lynden's defense propels Lions to win

Published: December 8, 2012

Lynden put on an impressive defensive display and came away with a 41-28 non-conference win against Sehome in a matchup of two Whatcom County state teams from a year ago Friday, Dec. 7, in Lynden.

The Lions (2-2) held Sehome standout Rachel Albert to 10 points and only gave up four third-quarter points.

"I thought defensively, we played really good assignment basketball," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "Outscoring them 13-4 in the fourth quarter was the difference in the ball game."

Lynden's Stephanie Somers scored a game-high 11 points, and Kelsey Bouwman added seven in the win. Adams said two 3-pointers by Mandy Warner in the third quarter was a key turning point in the game.

Sehome (2-3) travels to Marysville-Pilchuck on Saturday, Dec. 8, while Lynden plays at Mount Baker on Monday, Dec. 10, in a non-conference game.
