Lummi boys rally in fourth quarter to earn season-opening win

Published: December 8, 2012

The Lummi boys' basketball team made several key defensive stops down the stretch to pull out a 50-46 Northwest 1B conference season-opening win against Grace Academy Friday, Dec. 7, in Lummi.

Willie Jones scored a team-high 13 points for the Blackhawks, and Earl Johnson added 10 in the win.

"It was kind of a typical first game," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "We missed a lot of layups, but it was a tight game from the tip-off to the final. We were able to make stops down the stretch, and that's what got the win for us."

The Blackhawks trailed 39-38 heading into the fourth quarter, but Lummi outscored Grace Academy 12-7 in the final 8 minutes.

Lummi plays Mount Vernon Christian next at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in Lummi.
