The Ferndale boys' basketball team defeated Blaine 64-53 in a non-conference game in Blaine on Friday, Dec. 7.
"We dug ourselves an early 19-6 first quarter deficit," Blaine coach Shaun Pile said in a phone interview. "We fought back and cut the lead to six at halftime but we just couldn't get over that hump. A miss here would turn into a layup for them. They played a lot harder than we have in the past."
Ferndale (2-2) was led by Kendall Kelly, who scored 17 points and Cameron Massey, who scored 11.
Gabe Trump led the Borderites (1-3)with 23 points.
"He really carried us tonight and hit some tough shots," Pile said.
Ferndale will play at home against Anacortes in a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 10, while Blaine will play at Meridian on Tuesday, Dec. 11, in a non-conference game.
