FERNDALE

GODLEN EAGLES

Coach: Mike Ivy (fourth season)

Last year: Finished second in the Class 3A NWC standings with a 6-7 conference record. ... Ended season after going 2-2 in the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament and finished 14-10 overall. ...Linsey Honeycutt was an All-Whatcom County selection.

Players to watch: Taylor Reid (Sr., G); Koral Weidkamp (Sr., G); Linsey Honeycutt (So., P); Hannah Carlson (Jr., G); Kendra Bodger (Sr., P)

Outlook: Look at the Golden Eagles starting five, and it's hard to find a weak spot. Look two, three or four players down Ferndale's bench, and coach Mike Ivy still isn't losing much production. Ferndale returns its entire starting lineup from a year ago, and it's talent heavy. Taylor Reid has been running point for the Golden Eagles since she showed up at Ferndale, it seems. Senior Koral Weidkamp and junior Hannah Carlson, who is on the brink of becoming a star in the league, accompany Reid along the perimeter. Ivy said 6-foot post Kendra Bodger is beginning to put it all together and, in the middle of it all, is Linsey Honeycutt, who was an All-Whatcom County selection last year. Taylor and Taryn Knutson and Kelli Bannerman are strong options at guard off the bench, and Kodie Euper and Brooke Benson can contribute in the paint. "We're a fast team, and we are going to full-court pressure, half-court trap and use multiple defenses," Ivy said in a phone interview. "I think if you want to go to state, you have to use more than one defense, and you have to play it well."
