Outlook: The Seahawks are without eight players who graduated last year and only return three, including one senior. Luckily for Anacortes, that one senior is Melanie Martin, who knows how to fill up a stat sheet. Martin missed part of her junior season with a knee injury, and coach Ken Welk said he's thrilled to have his senior guard back. "It's exciting to have her back at full strength," Welk told the Skagit Valley Herald. "She's playing with so much ease and confidence to her game right now." Guards Jillian Welk and Tania Daou figure to start in the backcourt with Martin along the perimeter. Both logged varsity minutes last year but saw limited time. Anacortes will start two newcomers in the frontcourt. Sophomore Autumn Frost and junior Carly Christensen are the Seahawks' two tallest players. Both stand at 5-foot-9. "It's a group that, until we get on the floor and play, it's difficult to project what their capabilities are," Welk said.
