Meridian cruises past shorthanded Delview

Published: December 7, 2012

Alijah Garcia, Spencer Blackburn and Logan Carlson scored double-digit points to lead the Meridian boys' basketball team to a 62-33 non-conference win against Delview on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Meridian High School.

Garcia scored a team-best 13 points, Blackburn scored 11 and Carlson added 10.

"They only had seven guys, and their starting point guard was out with the flu," Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview. "Two of their starting posts got injured last game, so they were really shorthanded. They zoned us, trapped us and played with a lot of energy. I thought our guards did a good job of finding our posts, and their efforts really paid off tonight."

Meridian (3-1) held Delview to 11 of 44 shooting and won the rebounding battle 50-21.

The Trojans play at home next against Blaine in a non-conference game at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
