Hallmark, Carson earn wins for Trojans in wrestling over Nooksack, Anacortes

Published: December 6, 2012

The Meridian and Nooksack Valley wrestling teams traveled to Concrete on Wednesday, Dec. 5, and wrestled Concrete and Anacortes.

"It was wonderful. Nobody on the team has wrestled before outside of Neal Tilbury, Jack Hallmark and Savannah Grogg," Meridian coach Fred Pulphus said in a phone interview. "I was very happy for them. They all went out there and left it on the mat and were so supportive of each other."

Hallmark won by decision in the 138 weight class and Blake Carson won twice in the 285 weight class for the Trojans.

Grogg and Paula Whitney also wrestled for Meridian, but lost in their matches.

"I was very impressed with the kids," Pulphus said. "They weren't messing around and the wrestling community that traveled with us was great."

Meridian will participate in the Battle at the Border tournament on Friday, Dec. 7, while Nooksack Valley will wrestle at the Iron Sharpens Iron tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8.
