The Squalicum boys' basketball team defeated SW Metro Pirates from Australia 64-48 on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Squalicum High School.
"It was a competitive game and a lot of fun to have some international flavor to it," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "We pulled ahead in the second quarter. Our defense tightened up and that led to some good shots on offense."
The Storm (3-1) was led by Blake Harmon, who scored 14 points and had five rebounds and Ben Garcia, who scored 15 points.
"It's a different style of play and more physical than at home," SW Metro coach Peter Pollock said in a phone interview. "It's more enjoyable because they reward you on defense. They allow more contact on rebounds and it encourages players to go after it. They just outplayed us."
Squalicum plays at Glacier Peak on Friday, Dec. 7.
