Somers, Lynden girls' basketball defeat Anacortes 67-41

Published: December 5, 2012

Stephanie Somers led the Lynden girls' basketball team to a 67-41 win at Anacortes on Tuesday, Dec. 4, with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

"We talked to her about coming out and establishing herself at both ends," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "To finish a game at any level with a double-double is a monstrous effort."

The Lions also had 14 points from Kelsey Bouwman and 11 points from Kaitlyn Mark.

"It was a good game for us playing in a hostile environment," Adams said. "We were a little nervous before the game but then we came out and outscored them 18-9 in the first quarter."

Lynden made a couple key baskets late in the third quarter and was able to extend the lead.

"We were able to hit some two-foot shots instead of 20-foot ones and those are always a higher percentage shot," Adams said.

Lynden (1-2) will host Sehome on Friday, Dec. 7, in a non-conference game.
