Western Washington University senior outside hitter Marlayna Geary and sophomore libero Samantha Hutchinson were named to the NCAA Division II West Regional All-Tournament Team.
Geary had 26 kills and 21 digs, and Hutchinson 50 digs as the No. 4-seeded Vikings split a pair of matches. They swept No. 5-seed Sonoma State in an opening-round contest and lost in four sets to No. 1-seed and host Brigham Young Hawaii in the semifinals. The Seasiders went on to sweep No. 3-seed Cal State San Bernardino in the championship match Saturday. CSUSB had won the last four regional titles.
WWU, rated No. 15 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll, finished its season 24-4.
Geary had her 18th double-double of the season against BYU-Hawaii with 21 kills and 13 digs. She finished her four-year career with 1,354 kills, second among WWU leaders and just 25 shy of the school record. Geary also had 983 digs, 10th all-time, as she fell 17 short of becoming just the fourth WWU player to reach the 1,000 plateau in both categories.
Hutchinson had a match-high 29 digs versus BYU-Hawaii.
WWU won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship with a 16-2 record to earn an automatic berth at regionals.
