Blaine opens wrestling season with win at Mariner Holiday Classic

Blaine started its wrestling season with an impressive showing at the Mariner Holiday Classic on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Everett.

The Borderites placed first at the 10-school meet with 194 points. Ferndale finished second with 167 points.

Blaine had seven wrestlers reach their weight finals with four winning their championship matches. Blaine had wins from Christian Sharp at 145 poinds, Justin Belding at 152 pounds, Jon Stewart at 160 pounds and Mikey Antzcak at 285 pounds. It was the first tournament wins for Stewart and Sharp.

"We've got some young guys and some of them are doing well," Blaine coach Craig Foster said in a phone interview.

Ferndale had three wrestlers win their weight classes. Derek Bajda took first at 138 pounds, Erik Engels was first at 182 pounds and Kam Williams was first at 220 pounds.
