Lynden repeats as 2A state champs

Lynden has won its second straight Class 2A state title and its fifth in seven years, beating Tumwater 41-7.

Lynden is 12 minutes away from a repeat 2A state title, as the Lions lead Tumwater 41-7 heading to the fourth quarter.

John Shine gets an interception at the 1, and Zach Vis and Josh Kraght hook up for their third touchdown of the game, this one from 27 yards out, to put Lynden up 41-7 with 1:51 left in the third quarter. Vis broke the 2A state championship game receiving yards on the reception. He now has 271. Kraght is closing in on the passing record, as well.

Lynden marches 80 yards with its first drive of the second half, and Dak Shagren caps it off with a beautiful spinning catch along the sidelin on a 2-yard pass to his back shoulder from Josh Kraght, making it 34-7 Lynden with 6:21 left in the third quarter.

Lynden is one half of football away from the seventh state football championship in school history. The Lions head to the locker room leading Tumwater 27-7. Zach Vis has six catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns, while Josh Kraght has rushed for 58 yards and another TD.

After separating a receiver from the ball on fourth down with a big hit from his safety position, Zach Vis takes a screen pass from Josh Kraght 12 yards for his second touchdown of the game, putting the Lions up 27-7 with 1:58 to play in the first half.

Lynden is finally able to punch it in from close, as Josh Kraght bulls his way in from a yard out, capping off a 10-play, 70-yard drive. The Lions now hold a 20-7 lead with 6:06 to play in the first half.

Lynden has another drive stall deep in Tumwater territory, but Alex Otano-Guether steps on to boot his second field goal, this one a 29-yarder, to increase the Lions' lead to 13-7 with 11:06 to play in the first half.

At the end of the first quarter, Lynden holds a 10-7 lead.

Tumwater's opportunistic defense, which had scored a school-record 58 points entering the game, is at it again, as linebacker David Durden intercepts Josh Kraght and returns it 19 yards for a touchdown, making it 10-7 Lynden with 2:24 left in the first quarter.

The Lions force Tumwater to turn over on downs at the Lynden 29. On the next play, Josh Kraght finds Zach Vis behind the Tumwater secondary for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Lynden leads 10-0 with 5:36 left in the first quarter.

Lynden won the toss and again elected to receive. The Lions picked up three quick first downs, but stalled inside the 20, before Alex Otano-Guenther booted a 36-yard field goal to put the Lions up 3-0 with 9:08 to play in the first quarter.
