Tax pledges, Morsi and Rice all in hot water

R epublican members of Congress are starting to distance themselves from the “no new taxes” pledge they once signed at the prodding of GOP strategist Grover Norquist, recalling the old saw: “Never say never.” In Egypt, a power grab by President Mohammed Morsi has triggered citizen unrest and fallout in the Egyptian stock market. Back home, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice continues her closed-door meetings with Republican leaders in the Senate, trying to explain her public response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which took the lives of four Americans.
