The Mount Baker girls' basketball team defeated Oak Harbor 57-53 in a non-conference game Friday, Nov. 30, at Mount Baker High School.
"I think it went really well considering we have zero returning starters and only one returning varsity player," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "It's a new group and we are getting the jittres out. There are a lot of things we need to work on but a win for their game of the season is good."
The Mountaineers were led by Emily Yost, who scored 18 points.
"Yost was really strong on the boards and worked really hard all game," Ellis said. "She gave us the experience on the floor and played great defense."
Emma Lallas scored 12 and Taylor Leger added eight more for Mount Baker.
"We had foul trouble early but they played really hard." Ellis said. "It was tough because we like to run up and down the court, but it stopped so much because of fouls."
Mount Baker is now 1-0 and will play at Blaine in a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7:15 p.m.
