The Squalicum boys' basketball team defeated Ferndale 61-47 in a non-conference game Friday, Nov. 30, at Squalicum High School.

"Both teams came out and shot well in the first quarter; there were seven 3-pointers combined in the first quarter for both teams," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "There wasn't much defense played. We did a better job in the second and that helped us take the lead at half and we were able to sustain that for the rest of the game."

The Storm was led by Ben Garcia with 20 points and Blake Harmon with 16.

"Garcia shot really well tonight and was big for us," Dickson said. "Harmon did a good job defensively as well as with his shot selection. Jonathan Whetnall gave us a nice spark off the bench on both ends of the floor."

Ferndale was led by Austin Honeycutt with 22 points and Kendall Kelly, who scored nine points all from 3-pointers.

The Storm is now 2-0 and will host Sehome in a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:15 p.m., while Ferndale (1-1) travels to Lynden Christian in a non-conference game.
