Forward Sydney Donaldson led a balanced attack with a game-high 16 points, helping nationally ranked Western Washington University claim a 77-54 victory over Western Oregon University in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for both schools Thursday at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The Vikings, ranked No. 8 in this week's Division II Top 25 Poll, remained unbeaten at 5-0 overall with all the games at home.
WOU, which fell to 4-3, had a three-game winning streak snapped. Guard Amber Reade led the Wolves with 12 points.
WOU had a 10-5 lead just under four minutes into the game, but the Vikings ran off 10 straight points, the first six by Donaldson and the last four by guard Trishi Williams to grab a 15-10 advantage with 13:55 left in the half. WWU pulled away from there, holding a 27-14 lead midway through the period and being up 42-26 at halftime.
The Vikings never led by less than 19 points in the second half.
Donaldson finished 7 of 11 from the field, and also added six rebounds and three blocked shots. Center Britt Harris and guards Corinn Waltrip (Sr., Tigard, OR) and Williams each had 12 points for WWU.
Dana Goularte had 11 points and four blocked shots for WOU. Lorrie Clifford had 10 points for the Wolves, and Whitney Rodriguez added a game-high 13 rebounds.
The triumph marked the 20th straight WWU victory over WOU. The Vikings hold a 41-9 series advantage.
