A letter writer on Nov. 24 suggests that it cannot be accurately concluded that global warming is occurring, because meteorologists cannot even reliably offer long-range weather predictions.
This line of attack is No. 62 ("Scientists cannot even predict the weather") on a website devoted to debunking the myths of climate change skeptics. The short response is: "Weather and climate are different; climate predictions do not need weather detail."
The letter-writer also espouses another common myth, that there is no consensus among scientists on climate change. In fact, 97 percent of climate experts do agree that human behavior is causing global warming.
The list includes 172 other climate-change denier myths, with detailed responses, and may be found at skepticalscience.com/argument.php.
